Marti Lyons

Marti recently directed the world premiere of JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN by Kimberly Belflower at Studio Theatre; the co-world premiere of WIFE OF A SALESMAN by Eleanor Burgess at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre; and the co-world premiere of GEORGIANA AND KITTY: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY at Northlight Theatre Company. Marti also directed SENSE AND SENSIBILITY adapted by Jessica Swale and CYMBELINE by William Shakespeare at American Players Theatre, and I, BANQUO by Tim Crouch at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Marti directed the world premiere productions of HOW TO DEFEND YOURSELF by liliana padilla at Actors Theatre of Louisville and Victory Gardens Theatre. Marti directed the world premiere productions of WITCH by Jen Silverman at Writers Theater, and Geffen Theatre Company, which won the LA Critics Circle Award for Best Production and Best Direction. Marti directed CAMBODIAN ROCK BAND by Lauren Yee with music by Dengue Fever at Victory Gardens Theatre, City Theatre in Pittsburgh, and Merrimack Repertory Theatre. Marti directed the world premiere of BOTTICELLI IN THE FIRE by Jordan Tannahill for Woolly Mammoth Theatre and directed KINGS by Sarah Burgess and THE WOLVES by Sarah Delappe for Studio Theatre. Marti also directed SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, NATIVE GARDENS by Karen Zacarías for Victory Gardens Theatre, THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR and TWELFTH NIGHT for Montana Shakespeare, and GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER for The Court Theatre. She also recently directed THE MYSTERY OF LOVE AND SEX by Bathsheba Doran for Writers Theatre, SHORT SHAKES! MACBETH and SHORT SHAKES! ROMEO AND JULIET for Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, WIT for The Hypocrites, GIVE IT ALL BACK by Calamity West for Sideshow Theatre, and THE CITY OF CONVERSATION by Anthony Giardina for Northlight Theatre Company. She directed WONDROUS STRANGE, by Meg Miroshnik, Martyna Majok, Jen Silverman, and Jiehae Park for the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Marti has also directed Will Eno’s TITLE AND DEED for Lookingglass Theatre Company. Other projects include Laura Marks’ BETHANY, Marks' MINE and Will Nedved’s BODY AND BLOOD for The Gift Theatre, where she is an ensemble member; Catherine Trieschmann’s HOT GEORGIA SUNDAY and Theresa Rebeck's SEMINAR for Haven Theatre; PROWESS by Ike Holter, THE PEACOCK by Calamity West, and THE LAST DUCK by Lucas Neff for Jackalope Theatre; GIVE IT ALL BACK by Calamity West, 9 CIRCLES by Bill Cain, MARIA/STUART by Jason Grote, and co-directed THE GOLDEN DRAGON for Sideshow Theatre, where she is an Artistic Associate. SHORT SHAKES! MACBETH for Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and CAMBODIAN ROCK BAND by Lauren Yee for Victory Gardens Theater. Marti is the Artistic Director of Remy Bumppo Theatre Company and is a proud member of SDC. Marti has taught at University of Chicago, Northwestern, and University of Illinois at Chicago. Marti received a BFA in Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, and an MFA in Theatre from University of Idaho.
